Laboratory Analytical ServicesThe Zambia Agriculture Research Institute (ZARI) at Mt. Makulu Central Research Station in Chilanga has two laboratories that offer analytical services in soils, fertilizers, irrigation water and liming materials, and plant tissue. The objective of the facilities is to offer analytical services to research programmes and the farming community. Many farmers through out Zambia and cooperate organizations have used and are still using these testing facilities at Mt.Makulu Research Station. So far about 40,000 thousand soil samples have been analyzed and the data were used for soil classification. As a result a Zambia National Soil Map and others such as crop suitability and pH maps have been produced and are now being used for planning and land use purposes by both foreign and local investors. Based on the analytical data fertilizer and lime recommendations are being made and given to farmers to implement to improve soil fertility and crop production. Both fertilizers and lime materials are also being tested to ascertain their quality and the information is passed on to government and farmers for use. |
Mission StatementTo contribute to the improvement of the welfare of the Zambian people through the provision of technologies & services that enhances household, food, security and equitable income generating opportunities for the farming community and agricultural enterprise.
